The Madra Mór Weekend Watchlist Issue #5 - it's all about style this week...

Updated: May 12, 2021

Every week we will be listing a great film, TV show and short film that we love and we think you will too. Time to put the feet up, crack open a beverage and enjoy.

Issue #5

This week's picks are pack full of style (with some added violence). All three pieces posses some stunning photography, in three totally different locations - LA, Birmingham and the west coast of Ireland.

On a side note, Cillian Murphy did the voice over for the fantastic Irish documentary about surfing - Waveriders - which is also worth checking out.

THE MOVIE: Drive

One of my favourite films of all time. The cinematography is this film is just immense. In fact, it is so good, that it is my go to film for when I teach my film course. Visual storytelling at its best. Be warned however, it's pretty violent. Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan have the perfect on screen chemistry and Oscar Isaac is on form as always.

THE TV SHOW: Peaky Blinders

Following on with more violence (sure why not), Peaky Blinders is one of those shows that has taken all the cinematic tools and brought to the small screen. Epic sets, epic performances, epic storytelling. Cillian Murphy is simply incredible as Thomas Shelby and of course, the late, great Helen McCrory. She will be missed for sure.

THE SHORT FILM: Dark Side Of The Lens

The only violence you'll find in this film, is Mickey Smith's description of getting battered by the ocean. Like Drive and Peaky Blinders, some absolutely gorgeous shots and a great voice over to accompany it.

Have a great weekend.
