The Madra Mór Weekend Watchlist Issue #2 - National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!

Updated: May 12, 2021

Every week we will be listing a great film, TV show and short film that we love and we think you will too. Time to put the feet up, crack open a beverage and enjoy.

Issue #2.

With today, April 2nd, being National Peanut Butter and Jelly day, we have decided to focus on food. The Founder, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Failure of the Imagination. Three different styles of tv and film but all great watches.

For the record, I LOVE PB+J.

THE MOVIE: The Founder

This is one of those classic American films that feels quite indie even though it has a huge star. It came out just after Birdman and Spotlight, two films that relaunched Michael Keaton's film career. The story follows Ray Kroc, played by Keaton, who took the small burger joint named McDonald's and turned it into what it is today. A really interesting story and great performances all round. A good, solid film.

THE TV SHOW: Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

This is sold as a docu-series about food but this show is so much more than that. I am a big, big fan of this series. What a loss to the world Mr Bourdain was. He is a gift to television and we were so lucky that CNN saw sense and made 12 seasons of this show. Jump in anywhere (literally) and you won't be disappointed. I particularly loved the Seattle episode, even for the final sequence alone (if you see it, you'll know).

THE SHORT FILM: Failure of the Imagination

A powerful short film about Silo, a UK restaurant with the aim of creating an award winning menu using a zero-waste food system designed from scratch.

Have a great weekend.
